Tips and Tricks to get the best rental home experience:

When to go & When to book:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Book your rental home in the Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Beaufort, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Beaufort, NC visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have offers and deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. Whitehurst Lookout on the Sound has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you book the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

During your stay:

  • Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your .
  • Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be respectful. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect your property!
  • On check-out day, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
