Vacation rental tips and tricks:

Money saving strategies:

  • Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local Beaufort, NC visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for nearby accommodations and attractions.

How to choose and book a perfectrental home:

  • Select your vacation week and maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. 2-bedroom, Oceanside unit in Emerald Isle w\/ kids bunk room, 3-min walk to beach has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you book your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is right for your vacation group.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your . Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, record any problem areas upon your arrival. Speak to the host immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your life at home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to stimulate new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
