Tips and Tricks for getting the best Beaufort, NC vacation property experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To get the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Often, management companies supply Beaufort, NC area travel guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Beaufort, NC area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Filter your search:

  • First and foremost, have your family decide on a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Dogwood Treehouse in Pine Knoll Shores, NC has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the host before booking the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of problems.
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Protect your property!
  • Make a record of any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Be respectful. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a great time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
