Fishing: The Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier is a 1.6-mile drive or a 1-mile walk on the beach to the east. Surf fishing is trendy especially when the beaches are peaceful.
Do keep an eye out for rip tides on any North Carolina beach.
Sand! Our cleaning team works hard, but please know that the wind and wet toes bring sand everywhere. Rinse your feet with the hose, or use the outdoor shower!
Kayak tours/rental and a surf shop are also within walking distance just at the entrance to our street.

Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium is located about 15 miles away

Eateries in the Emerald Plantation Shopping Center:
Burger place (Hwy 55 Burger, Shakes, and Fries)
Pizza place (Michelangelo’s). Saturday nighttime is completely jammed. Telephone far in advance!
American-style restaurant --Rucker Johns -everybody can find something here, and it gets good reviews

Breakfast at the Beach!
Giovani's Brooklyn Bagels - till 1pm - fresh yummy, in the back of Emerald Isle Plaza
Flip Flops Donuts - till 12 - made right on site, amazingly good independent donut shop
Village Market - breakfast and lunch, sundries, counter service. Popular
Trading Post - want something more fancy? Breakfast/brunch, lunch, dinner. Check the menu, and go early, it is popular!
Date nighttime? Caribsea is just off the main road , and there are tons of choices in Swansboro, many with vistas of the river out to the ocean.

Food/Grocery: Food Lion and Publix in the close by (0.6 miles, an 11-min. walk) Emerald Plantation Shopping Center. The prices are reasonable. Note that they are swamped on Saturday when new people arrive. And all those folks can quickly empty the fresh veggies and fruit.
Lowes Foods (3.2 miles, 11 min drive) - A trip across the bridge; usually not necessary. They will shop for you and do delivery, however.
Piggly Wiggly (7 miles and 12 mins. away from the home): A convenient stop on the way in if you are coming in from Jacksonville. If you are coming in on a Saturday or Sunday it'll be much less busy.

Shopping: There is plenty of shopping on Emerald Isle and right at the Emerald Plantation Shopping Center with beach wear, book store, jewelry, movie theater... Not to mention beach “superstores” like Waves, etc.

Closest drug store: CVS Pharmacy - Photo too (1.1 miles, 3 min drive)

Check-in/check-out: Standard Check-In time is 4 pm and check-out time is 10 am.

Beach Towels: Please bring beach towels. There isn't time to turn around the home for the next guest and clean beach towels.

Food in the House: We've tried to stock the kitchen with necessary silverware and cookware. If anything is missing, please tell us so we can address the problem. You will also find standard spices, common items (oil), and some standard refrigerator stuff.

There should be coffee pods for the first morning, and a Mr Coffee as well. And tea bags!

Thus you will find some items in the refrigerator. These items are left because when we have rented, we have been frustrated that cooking is hard without them and we end up doing additional runs to the grocery store. Please feel complimentary to use anything you find. If you have food you don't want to bring home and won't spoil in the next few weeks, feel complimentary to leave it. (We clean out and refresh these items each summer, don't worry).

Next Door: Since this is a duplex we ask that folks be respectful of the families that are renting the other side of the home and our co-owner expects the same of their families.

Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental home experience:

Find your perfect rental:

  • Reserve your rental property in Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Beaufort, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Beaufort, NC area visitors guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Beaufort, NC visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Narrow your Search:

  • Begin by choosing a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Easy Beach Access & Ocean View! 4Bd\/3Ba -family-friendly, Walk\/bike to shops has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Beaufort, NC vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.

More tips for your stay:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your . We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to propel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
