Our top Rental property booking tips and tricks:

When to visit Emerald Isle & When to book:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Beaufort, NC area. Booking your Beaufort, NC vacation rental in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Often, management companies supply Beaufort, NC area visitors guide magazines which will include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Beaufort, NC area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to select the best rental:

  • To start, have your family commit to a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Oceanfront-Secluded-beautiful! Booking long-term stays this winter has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before reserving your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Does your group require special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.

More considerations:

  • Get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Record any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Just before checking out, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
