How to book the best rental home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Reserve your vacation home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers often offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Many rental management companies supply Beaufort, NC area travel guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning and choosing your prefectvacation home:

  • Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and choose a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Rx Pad, Soundfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. If not, email the property manager before you book the home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
  • Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make certain damages are not linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
  • Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
