Our top Vacation rental tips and tricks:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the largest rental within your budget, we recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Some property management companies offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • First and foremost, have your group decide on a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Seaside Villas, 3 story, elevator, garage, 4 bedrooms, 3.5 bath. Sleeps 8-10 has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Beaufort, NC rental home search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. If not, contact the host before booking your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Advice for your stay:

  • Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • During check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to propel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
