How to get the best Emerald Isle rental home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Beaufort, NC area. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Beaufort, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Narrow your Search:

  • Start by having your group commit to dates and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Sound front and Ocean Views! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. If not, email the property management company before you book your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what is suitable for your trip.
  • Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Upon arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
