Strategies to get the perfect Beaufort, NC vacation property experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in the Beaufort, NC area. Reserve your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property management companies often offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Beaufort, NC area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Make a plan and choose a perfectvacation home:

  • Start by selecting the best vacation week and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Sound Front Home-Sunset Bay Retreat in Harkers Island has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking pages. If not, reach out to the host before you reserve the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what is right for your vacation group.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

Advice for a terrific stay:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Upon check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a terrific time? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
