SAFE NEIGHBORHOOD: Guest suite is located in the of a safe, private, neighborhood.

PRIVATE CUL-DE-SAC LOT: Suite is on first floor of a single-family home located on a wooded, cul-de-sac lot which limits the view to neighboring homes. The home is adjacent to a park, so it is not uncommon see a variety of birds, deer, and other wildlife.

WALK OR BIKE TO EVERYWHERE: Emerald Isle has broad walking and bicycle paths, so you can get just about anywhere on the island without a car if you savor traveling on foot or bicycle.

HALF-MILE FROM BEACH: Located 1/2 mile from the beach (3 min. bicycle ride, 7 min. power walk, 15 mins. for turtles).

HALF-MILE FROM PARK: There is a nature park within a half-mile walk of our home. They have walking paths to the sound, a kayak launch, modest pier for fishing, frisbee golf, bathroom facilities when available.

RESTAURANTS / SHOPS: There are also multiple eateries and stores within a 1/2 mile and many more within a mile. You can use the bicycles to ride to the local beach and to many other places on the island. There is a beach, a park, eateries and stores within about a half-mile of our home. Nearly everything on the island is within 3 miles of our home. We have two beach cruiser bicycles which you may use at your own risk with a signed waiver (be especially careful during the busy summer). There is car parking available for the public beaches (sometimes there is a parking fee on weekends during the summer). Uber is also available on the island.

Emerald Isle is home to this apartment. Emerald Forest Golf and Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier are worth checking out if an activity is on the agenda, while those in the mood for shopping can visit Emerald Plantation and Salty Air Open Market. Salty Pirate Water Park and Emerald Isle Adventures are also worth visiting. Take an opportunity to explore the area for outdoor excitement like hiking/biking trails.

• The earlier you can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
• June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Book your vacation home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
• Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
• Booking websites often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
• Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain offers and deals for local accommodations and attractions.

Tips for a great stay:

• Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
• Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
• Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
• Be respectful. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
• Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
• Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
• Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
• Did your group have a terrific time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
