Tips and Tricks to get the very best rental experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have discounts for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Select dates and spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Relax Down East in this home near Beaufort & Cape Lookout has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If not, email or call the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

During your stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of issues.
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect your property!
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the property manager right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your life at home. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to inspire more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
