Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

When to visit & When to book:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To get the best value, try changing your family's Beaufort, NC vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Beaufort, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • The sooner you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Filter your rental search:

  • First, have your family decide on dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Ocean Sands 204A, Oceanside Condo in Atlantic Beach, NC! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your family.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
  • Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful time? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
