Tips and Tricks to get the perfect rental experience:

Finding the best rental value:

  • The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Summer time is high season in the Beaufort, NC area. To find the best value, try changing your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Beaufort, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Beaufort, NC area visitor guide magazines which include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Beaufort, NC visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Narrow your Search:

  • To start, have your family decide on a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Why Knot Getaway…Rooftop with WaterView! Unit F has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property owner before you book your home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine which bed configuration is suitable for your trip.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many concerns.
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • To make sure no damages are attributed to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Call the host right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
