Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation home experience:

Getting the best rental value:

  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is high season in New Bern. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Beaufort, NC area travel guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Beaufort, NC visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by selecting your vacation dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. The Bearplex of New Bern featuring king-size bed has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Beaufort, NC rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. If not, reach out to the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.
  • If there's a certain Beaufort, NC attraction you simply love, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Tips to have a smooth stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
  • Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
